Chekhov's Dog Theatre Company presents

Chekhov's Dog  is a theatre company in New York City dedicated to producing and performing stuff we like. We could ramble on at length about about our mission and our vision in an effort to make ourselves sound more important and professional, but who do we think we'd be fooling?

Michael Collins

(Playwright) Author of the plays For the Love of Damien Hirst and Sweet, Sweet, Sweet Poison, Mr. Collins also writes and directs a ragtag collection of webisodes, many of which can be found at www.movies.film.  Awards: While in high school in Vadez, Alaska, Mr. Collins’ thick-crust ground beef pizza took top honors at  the Valdez Cooking Contest, narrowly beating out the pu-pu platter entered by the chef at the Pipeline Club. That shock victory remains controversial to this day.

Chekhov's Dogs

Chekhov doted on his two dachshunds, Brom and Khina, and was even known to occasionally stage comic plays starring the two of them at his country estate outside Moscow. Writing to fellow playwright Nikolai Leikin, Chekhov noted that ‘Brom is nimble and lithe, polite and sensitive. Khina is awkward, fat, idle, and sly.’ At Chekhov’s Dog Theatre Company, we strive to emulate Brom, but are all too keenly aware that we are in point of fact far more like Khina.

The Players

The staged reading of the This Is The Game That Changes As You Play will be performed on the main stage at The Players on 16 Gramercy Park South. One of the city’s most storied private clubs, The Players was established in 1888 by legendary Shakespearean actor Edwin Booth as a nexus for 'the promotion of social intercourse between the representative members of the dramatic profession...and the patrons of the arts.' Designed by Stanford White, The Players is the oldest club still in its original clubhouse in the United States.

Please note that The Players does not allow shorts, sneakers, t-shirts or ripped jeans. That being said, bolero pants, black leather jackets, platform shoes, french cuffs and perfectly starched cravats are always welcome. 'nuff said.
